With one stroke of the digital pen, Simon Owens and PBS have earned their annual tithe from me.

With one article Simon and PBS highlight the travails of the “Big Three” traditional pulps—Analog Science Fiction & Fact, Asimov’s Science Fiction, & The Magazine of Science Fiction & Fanasy—, the three big authors that have succeeded where the pulps have failed, and the two websites that are doing their best to carry the torch.

I firmly believe the science fiction and fantasy are two genres that matter in an age where genres don’t matter, yet are necessary to hold our hand into the next great age. Fantasy imagines what might be possible and Science Fiction imagines the consequences of what happens when it does come to pass.
