They’re there and I’m Not
The DFL blog “celebrates last-place finishes at the Olympics. Because they’re there, and you’re not.”
I’ve heard a lot of trash talk the past couple week about what should and shouldn’t be considered an Olympics-worthy competition. But Jonathan Crowe, the author of the blog, makes the point well in “Getting to the Games: A Reality Check”. There are no easy competitions in the modern games, and every athlete there deserves to be there*.
* Except for the cheaters. Those that automatically qualify by being from the host country even though their pre-Olympics performance normally wouldn’t be good enough are suspect as well, but they at least had to be the best their country had to offer.
