“Wizards Announces New Organizational Alignment
“Wizards of the Coast today announced new organizational alignment to focus on key growth strategies for core brands.
“‘As a company, we will continue to be the leader in entertaining the lifestyle gamer,’ said Greg Leeds, President of Wizards of the Coast. ‘Re-aligning resources ensures we achieve this goal for our most powerful brands.’
“While restructuring results in some job eliminations, Wizards of the Coast is actively recruiting to fill open positions in multiple areas of the company.
“‘Organizational change is always difficult on those impacted,’ said Leeds. ‘But we will take great care in the transition, and continue to invest in the growth of the business, specifically innovation for our Magic and Dungeons & Dragons fans.’
I called it. Though the writing was definitely on the wall.
There’s been no official word on who exactly is gone. But hearsay on various discussion boards suggest Randy Buehler, the “brain” behind Gleemax and a VP at Wizards is gone. Also gone is “Gamer Zer0”, a community laison at Gleemax that did more to alienate the community than I’ve seen a single person do anywhere before. Some surprising others include Devin Low, lead developer of Magic, and Linae Foster, one of the developers of the D&D 4E Game System License. The GSL is also now considered as a total failure by almost completely failing to lure third-party publishers to the 4E platform and actually spurring a serious competitor to D&D.
Lots of failures of execution over the past year for Wizards, and lots of rolling heads as a result.
