But Work Can Be Fun
Not all is doom and gloom, though.
Even though the Players’ Handbook and new mechanics are too much, the Dungeon Master’s Guide is very nice.
It is much easier to create balanced adventures. With the new math, as Dungeon Master (DM) you are pretty much assured of giving the players adequate challenge and reward. There are guidelines for speeding things up and slowing things down, if you want.
There is also a fun system for creating random dungeons and encounters.
Traps, puzzles, and monsters all are well balanced and plug-and-play.
Things unfortunately may have gotten more difficult for players, and for DMs trying to help their players create and understanding their characters. But it is also easier for DMs to give those characters something challenging, but not frustrating, and rewarding to do.
