Polly & the Pirates
I picked up the first volume of Polly and the Pirates this past weekend at the local comic store and just finished it last night.
This book is really, really great. It’s a fun, quick read with a very strong female lead. All of the various inhabitants of this fantasy world are well characterized. The art is fanciful but with very strong line work. The plot is very fast paced. Enough of the threads are wrapped up at the end to leave me satisfied, but wanting, and being promised, more.
I have finally found a comic I love that is suitable to share with Elizabeth. She’s still too young to fully appreciate it, I think. But there isn’t anything in it that will give her nightmares or steal her innocence either. It definitely engaged me more than Uncle Scrooge or her overpriced children’s picture books.
Again: really, really great.
