You Should See These Scary Movies
I’d say at least 10% of the viewing list I’m working through could be put labeled as “horror” or “thriller”.
I don’t consider myself a fan of the genre. But the films listed below are some of the best and most influential films, regardless of genre, ever made. If you haven’t seen these, you really should, especially if you think you know what they’re about. I was especially surprised by Nosferatu and Frankenstein.
Here, in alphabetical order, are my favorites scary movies from “102 Movies You Should See Before…”. I’ve linked to the DVDs on Amazon to make myself rich and put my kid through college.

To make the list a lucky 13, here are four of my personal favorites not on the list of 102.
Nosferatu is my pick for the “stop talking, turn out the lights, and get scared” headliner at your Halloween party. This is seriously creepy and odds are no one will have seen it. This is a god-damned vampire, forget those emo Twilight pussies. The linked DVD also has great bonuses you’ll want to check out the next day, especially the commentary track.
Finally, if you really like this genre you should be reading The Vault of Horror. It’s probably the best website on the Internet devoted to horror in film, well written and regularly updated by a dedicated, literate fanatic of the genre.
