The Life Cycle of a Nominee →
The only difference between Republicans and Democrats here is that the Democrats never seem to be organized enough to get this kind of thing going.

Die, or Get Rich Trying
The Post-Office Girl, by Stefan Zweig, is the most powerful exploration of poverty and the effects of war I’ve read. Joel Rotenberg’s translation is lyrical.
The story is haunting—the characters are hanging over me.
Very highly recommended.

“You’ve been meaning to do it for over a decade. Now join endurance bibliophiles from around the web as we tackle and comment upon David Foster Wallace’s masterwork, June 21st to September 22nd. A thousand pages1 ÷ 93 days = 75 pages a week. No sweat.” (via Kottke)

From “The Things That Carried Him” by Chris Jones, winner of the 2009 National Magazine Award for Best Feature Writing and originally published in the May 2008 issue of Esquire.
Another example of why I’ve been a reader and subscriber for going on a decade now. Whether it wins the award each year or not, it’s the best magazine on the rack, IMHO.
