Happy Thanksgiving!
I grew up with Wist and Cribbage. Relatively speaking, Pinochle is a bizarre and byzantine game.
It is also the preferred game of my wife’s family. That means I play it once or twice a year during those feast days we spend in Minot. I feel a fool every time I do.
Oh, well, at least this year I won all the game I played. After 10 years of practice, I’m getting better!

Re: Citi Bailout
Cats and dogs living together in agreement: Congress and the Federal Government pretty much suck.
The dog is the most pithy:
So now the jackasses who extend credit to people who should not have it, charge 29 percent interest rates, intentionally process payments late so they can charge late fees and over-limit fees and who spent all their time and energy lobbying to change the bankruptcy laws...

If you are depending on the traditional media to tell you what’s going on with the economy, you are missing out on a fascinating story being told in the blogs.
You might have to do some extra homework, but it’s definitely worth it.

This is Why I Give PBS Money
With one stroke of the digital pen, Simon Owens and PBS have earned their annual tithe from me.
With one article Simon and PBS highlight the travails of the “Big Three” traditional pulps—Analog Science Fiction & Fact, Asimov’s Science Fiction, & The Magazine of Science Fiction & Fanasy—, the three big authors that have succeeded where the pulps have...
Renovation
I’ve begun renovating our family room.
I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say I feel like I did when Elizabeth was born: nervous, excited, hopeful, uncertain.
Do I know what I’m doing? No, but that’s rarely stopped me before.
Origin of Love
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is playing tonight at the Fargo Theater. If you’re not doing anything at midnight, I recommend it.
You could always Netflix it, which is what I did, but it strikes me as the kind of film that’s best seen in a crowd.
The soundtrack is excellent.
This made my day.
The End of Wall Street's Boom →
Great article by Michael Lewis, author of Moneyball and Liar’s Poker, forwarding his thesis that Wall Street execs weren’t just corrupt: they were stupid.
Brash Statement
If this can be built for less than $10,000 (United States Dollars) I will build and fly it from Fargo, ND, to Rochester, MN, by 2012.
It did cost the inventors $130,000 in R&D and implementation.
Awesome.

Enough!
Now Pelosi is asking for a handout to Ford, GM, and Chrysler. WTF?
No!
Instead of pandering to your pro-union base, point the finger at the capitalist senior management! Seriously, this is why people who should be voting Dem shy away: national-level Dems are insane.
Pelosi and the people talking to her have learned nothing—NOTHING!—from President-Elect Obama’s campaign and looming...

The website of the Office of the President-Elect has a blog. Awesome.
Already Doing Something Right
NPR reports lobbyists are complaining they don’t have access to President-Elect Obama’s transition team.
Most hilarious quote:
You know, the entire business has been vilified, and I think that’s wrong.
— Democratic lobbyist Michael Lewan
Hopefully this is a sign of more good things to come.

Schmendrick: There are no happy endings, because nothing ends.
